Far Out-

Review from progarchives.com: This early 70's psychedelic Japanese quartet were more or less the precursors of The FAR EAST FAMILY BAND (see this band's biography), guitarist/vocalist Fumio Miyashita being the only link between the two. Miyashita would later join other musicians on FEFB which included among their ranks Masanori Takahashi, better known as "Kitaro". Under the name FAR OUT, they released one album in 1973.

Although « Nihonjin » is definitely a spacey album, the keyboards are only prominent on the opening notes and the synths are used sparingly throughout, for the occasional sound effect. The psychedelic atmosphere comes mostly from the guitars, electric sitar and drums, resulting in a sound somewhat reminiscent of PINK FLOYD's "A Saucerful of Secrets". The original LP, replete with weird sound effects, consisted of two epic tracks clocking in at 18 and 20 minutes respectively. The 7 bonus tracks of the CD edition are actually taken from The FAR EAST FAMILY BAND's first album "The Cave Down to the Earth" and feature some Japanese vocals that turn out in English on "The Cave" album. These tracks also lack the spacey synths of the latter.

Recommended for fans of early PINK FLOYD, or simply for a taste of the early Japanese psych scene.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Twink-Think Pink(1970)

"Originally released in 1970 on Polydor. This is a wild classic of British psychedelia featuring various members of the Deviants." This 1970 reissue of the Pink Fairies drummer/vocalist is nothing short of true brilliance. The first five cuts here that include "Ten Thousand Words In A Cardboard Box","Dawn Of Magic","Fluid" plus two more certainly get the brain cells a frying. The rest of the disc shows just how diverse Twink can get.On cuts like "Mexican Grass War" or "The Sparrow Is A Sign",one might honestly believe they originally came off of another record.'Think Pink' was Twink's first solo outing,as this psych gem is an absolute must-have.The fellow musicians that gave Twink a hand on this lp include Pretty Thing's rhythm guitarist John Povey,Deviant's bassist Honk,Tomorrow's John Wood and T.Rex's Steve Peregrine Took(R.I.P.).An underground UK classic from the 1968-72 era.

Music Emporium - Music Emporium (Great US Psychedelia 1969)

The LA trio's sound was a unique mix of Jefferson Airplane-esque male/female leads and the ambitious songwriting style of United States of America, propelled by the powerful drumming of Carolyn Lee. The album moves through different influences, including folk, skiffle, spiritual and rock, but retains the psychedelic sound throughout with the use of organs and harmonies. Recorded at Sunset Sound Studio 2, Hollywood, California in 1969. Originally released on Sentinal (69001). Includes liner notes by Jud Cost.
Music Emporium: Bill "Casey" Cosby (vocals, keyboards); Dave Padwin (guitar); Carolyn Lee (bass, background vocals); Dora Wahl (drums). Highly Recommended!!!!!

Sam Gopal-Escalator (Rare Undregound w. Lemmy 1969)

Sam Gopal was fronted by the young tabla player of the same name as Sam Gopal Dream,
an acoustic raga-without-sitar group that had previously performed at UFO and other hippy London venues.
But by the time they recorded this, their first album, he had added not only electric guitar,
but also former Jimi Hendrix’s roadie, Ian “Lemmy” Willis to the lineup on further fuzz guitar and vocals.
This album pre-dates Lemmy’s induction into Hawkwind’s ragged ranks by several years, but the germ of Hawkwind’s (and in time, Motörhead)
“The Watcher” is in the horribly fuzzed and equally-strung out “You’re Alone Now. On other tracks the bass player seems to be playing very crude early Motörhead runs,
so they may have been parrot-taught or even played by Lemmy himself.
"Yesterlove" and "grass" are my favorite songs of the album!!
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damon - Song Of A Gypsy (1968 US)

It's ordinary psychedelic rock music, not quite as strange or exotic as some word-of-mouth would imply. There's plenty of searing fuzz guitar, soul-searching and -probing lyrics with a mystical gauze, and, frankly, minimal melodic variety throughout the ten tracks, which have a slight Eastern flavor. It's not a mainstream record by any means, but it's not stunningly weird or innovative either. The album has been reissued on CD by Damien himself, and has also been given a limited edition vinyl release by Little Indian in Germany. The LP reissue comes with a four-song, seven-inch EP that includes the pre-LP "Song of the Gypsy"/"Oh What a Good Boy Am I" single.

AWAKE - Dreams made of Science (2008)

Country: Greece

Genre: space-kraut hybrid

Review from progarchives.com is a neo kraut-spacious rockin' project founded by multi-instrumentalist by John Dimoulas. With guest member Sakis Kasolis (guitar) he worked on his third auto-released album called Dreams Made of Science.  Next to combos such as Electric Orange, Metabolismus and a few others, Awake sounds as a potential resurrection of kraut-kosmische musik. The instrumentation oscillates between pure cosmic new agey / lo-fi electronics and hypno-rockin' exercises. Dreams Made of Science has been released as a double album. The opneing theme is a mysteriously sonic and black synthscape. Before to get into utterly black and claustrophobic lo-fi electronic ambience. The composition starts with a quiet naive-calm synthesised introduction. The third piece reveals an astonishing cloudy-funereal fuzzed out trip based on propulsive kraut-guitar grooves, plaintive minimal organ chords. Clearly among my favourites. No God represents the spaced out drone vibe of the band. This is reminiscent of old krauty hypno works from Dom and Mythos. Ululation is a massive goth-like synthesised piece. This is just mood and demonic ambience but nothing otherworldly or cinematic because of the use of elementary synthesised equipment. Te second chapter opens with two cheap-mechanical symphonic epics. The use of synthesiser toys badly affect the result despite that the initial music intention remains pretty interesting. A special mention to the warm-emotional epic guitar leads that help a lot to keep the listener attentive. The rest of the album carries on the sci-fi , space age dimension of the project. To sum up things, Dreams Made of Science features discernable, tasty and evocative primitive spacey rock experiments. A promising effort with a few brilliant ideas and cachy chordal atmospheres.

Subject Esq-Subject Esq (German 1972)

This is an incredible German band from the early 70s. Their music i can say that belongs to the 70's proto-prog style with flute-guitar   and occasional saxophone riffs.  Just listen to the first "Alone"  and the fifth "Mammon" songs really amazing. The band continued under the new name SAHARA after this album. Highly Recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fraction-Moon Blood (1971 USA)

Fraction: A Heavy psychedelic band. This 1971 release on the Angelus label (Angelus 571) was limited to only 200 copies, so originals are worth a small fortune. Fraction, with vocalist Jim Beach bearing an uncanny vocal resemblance to Jim Morrision (although he was singing on Sunset Strip long before Morrison took to the stage), were often compared favourably with the Doors, although their quasi-religious message would probably not have found favour with the recently-departed Morrison.  Lyrically it’s where some lysergic bible of semi-religious ergotism, christian redemption and physical/psychological stoned destruction meet.  see the exorcismic plea of ‘come out of her’…

Burnin' Red Ivanhoe-W.W.W (1971)

Burnin' Red Ivanhoe (Danish Band)
Burnin' Red Ivanhoe was formed back in 1967. In 1971, the band released the album "WWW", which is probably a good place to start (for proggers), as it contains some of their most progressive and interesting work. The self-titled album they released in 1970 (another gem!), also contains the track "Secret Oyster Service", and quite soon after that, a new, even more jazz-orientated group was formed, called SECRET OYSTER. Burnin' Red Ivanhoe was disbanded in 1972 (although they released one more album in 1974), and as a result, most members moved over to SECRET OYSTER. Burnin' Red Ivanhoe is recommended for fans of early scandinavian prog rock.
Highly Recommended !!!!!!!!! Enjoy!!!
